What makes Mama Bear Chiropractic different?
We believe the best healthcare starts with listening.
Our visits are intentionally unhurried. We take time to understand your story, answer your questions, and explain our findings. Every treatment plan is individualized, and care is always gentle and adapted to your body’s needs.
Whether you’re bringing in your newborn or seeking care for yourself, our goal is for you to leave feeling heard, understood, and supported.
Where are you located?
Our primary clinic is located in Downtown Honolulu. We also offer a limited number of appointments in Hawaiʻi Kai by recommendation and appointment only. If you’re unsure which location is right for you, just ask!
What's the best way to get in touch?
The easiest way to reach us is by text or through our online contact form. Because we’re currently a one-doctor practice, we don’t interrupt patient appointments to answer the phone.
New patients are invited to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation online. We offer multiple consultation times each week, making it easy to ask questions, discuss your concerns, and decide whether we’re the right fit before your first visit.
If you don’t see a consultation time that works for you, simply send us a text or email. We know that when you’re looking for answers, you don’t want to wait, and we’ll do our best to get you scheduled as soon as possible.
If you prefer to call, please leave us a voicemail. We return all messages as promptly as possible.
About Mama Bear Chiropractic & Our Services
Is Mama Bear Chiropractic just for moms and keiki?
No! While our practice has a special passion for pregnancy, babies, and children, we also care for adults. Most people realize they spend so much time taking care of everything and everyone else that they’ve forgotten to care for themselves. Whether you’re pregnant, parenting, or simply looking for a more thoughtful approach to chiropractic, we’re here for you.
But what if my child is already "healthy"?
Health is measured by how well the body is functioning, not by how we feel. If your child is feeling great, we are happy for them! However, what we see on the outside does not always match what we see on the inside. We would love the opportunity perform an assessment with the Subluxation Station to obtain an objective measurement of their health. At Mama Bear Chiropractic, when it comes to your family's health, we don’t guess, we test!
If myself or my child start chiropractic care, does that mean we have to keep coming forever?
Every recommendation is individualized. After your initial care plan, we reassess your progress together. Some people choose to stop care once they’ve reached their goals, while others continue with periodic visits because they notice they feel and function better. Our job is to educate and guide you—not pressure you.
Insurance & Pay Discounts
Do you take insurance?
Yes! We accept HMSA, HMAA, Triwest (VA Community Care) and Personal Injury cases at our downtown Honolulu location. We also accept Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts which allow you to spend your pre-tax dollars at the office of a healthcare provider. If you're unsure about your coverage, contact us before your visit and we'll be happy to help.
Do you offer self-pay discounts? Yes. We participate in Chiropractic Health USA (CHUSA), a discount medical plan that allows members to receive reduced self-pay rates. For $49 per year, your whole family receives CHUSA membership -- and you can use it at more than 7,800 participating providers across the country.
About Pediatric Chiropractic Care
What does pediatric chiropractic care involve?
Pediatric chiropractic care centers on supporting healthy nervous system function, which influences many aspects of a child's development — including sleep patterns, movement, digestion, emotional regulation, and the ability to adapt to everyday stressors. Treatment approaches are gentle and customized to match each child's unique developmental stage.
How does pediatric chiropractic differ from care for adults?
Unlike adult chiropractic, pediatric care relies on specialized, low-force techniques created specifically for babies, kids, and adolescents. These adjustments use gentle, light-touch pressure with the goal of promoting balanced nervous system function.
What concerns do families typically bring to pediatric chiropractic care?
Parents often seek support for issues such as:
- Sleep difficulties
- Feeding challenges or reflux
- Torticollis and head-shape asymmetry
- Challenges with sensory processing and emotional regulation
- Attention and focus concerns
- Stress related to a difficult birth or time spent in the NICU
Our focus is on identifying how the nervous system may be involved in these patterns, and helping the body build a stronger capacity to regulate and adapt.
Safety & What to Expect
Is chiropractic care safe for infants and children?
Yes. Pediatric chiropractic care uses specialized techniques that are gentle and appropriate for small, developing bodies. Care is adapted for each child’s age, size, and comfort level.
Will chiropractic care hurt my child?
No. Most children are very comfortable during visits. Many babies relax or even sleep during care. Adjustments are light and designed to be calm and reassuring.
What happens during the first visit?
Your first visit includes:
- A detailed health history
- A discussion of your concerns and goals
- A neurological assessment (INSIGHT Scans)
- A clear explanation of findings and recommendations (on your second visit to our office)
We take time to answer questions and ensure you feel informed and supported.
How long are appointments?
Initial visits (the first two visits) are typically longer to allow time for assessment and discussion. Follow-up visits are shorter and focused on ongoing support.
Sleep, Regulation & Development
Why does my baby only sleep when held?
This can be a sign that a baby’s nervous system has difficulty shifting fully into a relaxed, restful state. Many sleep challenges are not behavioral, but related to regulation and comfort. Supporting the nervous system can help babies settle and stay asleep more easily.
Can chiropractic care help with sleep issues?
Many families notice improvements in sleep quality, settling, and night wakings as nervous system regulation improves. Every child is different, and care focuses on supporting the body rather than forcing sleep patterns.
Is it normal for my child to wake frequently at night?
Night waking can be developmentally normal, but frequent waking paired with difficulty settling may indicate nervous system stress. A thorough assessment helps determine whether additional support may be helpful.
ADHD, Focus & Emotional Regulation
Can chiropractic care help children with ADHD or focus challenges?
Pediatric chiropractic care does not diagnose or treat ADHD. However, many families seek care to support nervous system regulation, which plays a role in focus, emotional control, and stress response.
Parents who want to understand better how regulation may influence focus and behavior can explore our article on ADHD and the nervous system for a deeper explanation.
Why does my child struggle more with focus or behavior when tired or stressed?
When the nervous system is overwhelmed, children may remain in a heightened stress response. This can impact attention, emotional regulation, and behavior. Supporting regulation can help children respond more calmly and consistently.
Premature & NICU Babies
Can premature of NICU babies receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Preemie and NICU babies often experience early nervous system stress. Care is extremely gentle and focused on supporting regulation, comfort, and development following early medical intervention.
Why dorpreemie babies sometimes seem more sensitive?
Premature babies may have nervous systems that are more reactive to stimuli such as sound, touch, or movement. Gentle support can help improve comfort and adaptability over time.
